Almost anyone can waltz into a dental office and request teeth bleaching. Keeping your teeth white after whitening, however, is the real trick. If you’re planning to try a professional tooth whitening treatment, then you’ll want to be prepared in advance to make your new look last.
1. Avoid Dark-Colored Foods
Dark pigments will quickly settle into grooves and pores in your tooth enamel. Try limit how often your teeth are exposed to things like:
- Red wine
- Coffee
- Tea
- Soda
- Berries
- Curry
- Tomato sauce
Additionally, tobacco use will cause tooth-staining. If you can cut back on cigarette use, your teeth (and body) will thank you for it.
If you DO want to splurge on a soda every now and then, try drinking it through a straw!
2. Brush and Rinse Often
Perhaps you can’t avoid staining foods altogether. That’s another reason why regular brushing and flossing are so important. In addition to keeping teeth healthy, good oral hygiene helps prevent stain buildup.
Make it a practice to drink water with each meal to help wash away dark colors. The longer you let them sit on your teeth, the more damage they can do.
3. Have A Maintenance Program
Whitening your teeth just once isn’t usually enough to keep them looking bright for the rest of your life. After a professional treatment, it’s good to do occasional touch-ups with at-home whitening kits after your regularly scheduled dental cleanings.
