DENTAL EMERGENCIES
Breaking or knocking out a tooth, experiencing a toothache or unusual jaw pain, or losing a dental restoration can come as a surprise. In these situations, a visit to the emergency room or your primary care physician probably is not the best option for immediate pain relief. At Lane Family Dental, we can assess your situation and immediately help relieve your discomfort. Then, Dr. Jason Lane and our team will explain the dental treatment necessary to restore optimal oral health, for long-term comfort.

Common Dental Emergencies
We have the proper equipment and expertise to assess and solve dental emergencies. If you aren’t sure whether an emergency dental appointment is necessary, call us. We’ll talk with you over the phone to help you determine the best course of action.
Here are a few situations in which an immediate visit would be necessary.
Chipped or Cracked Tooth
Chipped or cracked teeth almost always create dental emergencies, and an increasing toothache will let you know that it’s time to call the dentist. This type of injury can cause nerve damage if not promptly treated. If an entire adult tooth is completely knocked out, gently pick up the tooth or pieces of tooth and place it in a container of the patient’s saliva or regular milk. Bring it to our office, and (if possible) call us on your way to let us know you’re coming.
Jaw Pain
If you experience jaw pain after a sports injury or accident, the issue could be dental or medical. If bone, muscle, and skin are not involved, jaw pain can be an indicator of deep tooth decay, fracture, infection, or TMJ disorder. If the pain keeps you from working or sleeping, call for an emergency visit. Otherwise, schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
Damaged Dental Work
If dental work, such as fillings, crowns, or a bridge, is damaged in any way, you’ll need to see the dentist. The timeline for visiting our office depends upon your pain level. If your toothache is not severe, use a dab of dental wax to reseat your filing or crown until you can schedule an appointment. Severe pain that interferes with daily activities constitutes a dental emergency, in which case we will see you immediately.
Toothaches
Much like jaw pain, toothaches may or may not be a dental emergency, depending on the level of pain and trauma. We encourage you to schedule an appointment when experiencing any oral discomfort. Teeth do not heal if left alone; they require professional treatment by a dentist. Extreme tooth pain usually signals a problem that requires fast attention, so call or come by our office for a same-day emergency visit.
